What to wear

Dress for a Scottish wood in October

  • Sturdy boots or wellies
  • Warm layers
  • Waterproofs
  • A cosy woolly hat

Leave the crisp white trainers at home. The event runs in rain.

Accessibility

Most of the trail, honestly described

Pushchairs and all-terrain wheels are great across the whole route. All main paths are hard-surfaced.

Wheelchairs and power chairs can follow most of the trail, but Vogrie is a natural, historic estate. Certain sections have slopes and steeper inclines that may prove tricky for a standard manual chair without an assistant.

Message us at hello@vogriepumpkinforest.co.uk and we will give you the exact lowdown on gradients.

Food and fire

Warm your hands under the stars

Hearty local Scottish street food, steaming hot drinks and open fire pits ready for marshmallow roasting. Award-winning artisan pizza from Dough LaLa, alongside a strong line-up of local traders. A portion of profits from every marshmallow goes directly to The Yard, supporting disabled children and young people.

Rooted in Midlothian

A local Scottish event, made in true partnership with our community, our local creatives and our countryside.

Lighting and production

Kelburn Garden Party crew

We brought in the lighting and production team behind the Kelburn Garden Party to turn the ancient forest canopy into a glowing wonderland.

Inside Vogrie House

The Bubbling Toad

The folk at The Bubbling Toad sit right inside historic Vogrie Country House. Together we offer an optional Halloween add-on experience inside the house during the event.

Accessibility partner

The Yard

The Yard advised us on making the woodland trail as welcoming as possible. A share of profits from every marshmallow sold at our fire pits goes straight to their work with disabled children and young people.

Estate and grounds

Midlothian Council

We work hand in hand with the council estate team on sustainable waste management and on protecting the park’s remarkable tree collection.

Award-winning local food

Dough LaLa Pizza

Award-winning artisan slices from local legends Dough LaLa, alongside a strong line-up of local food and drink traders.

Their support and their fleet keep our team moving across the estate, so setup, operations and visitor support run smoothly every night.

Before you ask

01Why Vogrie Estate

Vogrie Country Park is a stunning, historic Midlothian estate filled with mature exotic trees, winding earth paths and rich local nature.

We are local, we are outdoors, and we offer an authentic, immersive autumn night out under a real forest canopy.

02What about dogs

Four-legged family members are very welcome. Well-behaved dogs on leads can join you along the trail.

Bring poop bags, though. Even the forest ghosts do not like stepping in surprises.

03Can I buy tickets at the gate

Advance online booking is required. Once a slot is capped, it is capped, so book ahead to avoid disappointed faces at the gate.

04What if I arrive late

Do not panic. We ask everyone to stick to their time slot where they can, but our team will always do their best to slip late arrivals into the next available slot.

05What if typical Scottish weather strikes

We are hardy Scots. A bit of drizzle will not stop the glow, and the event runs in rain or light weather.

Your safety is non-negotiable, though. We check Met Office updates daily at 08:00 and 12:00. We will only cancel if winds exceed 45mph, severe flooding occurs, or Amber or Red warnings are issued.

06What happens if you have to cancel for severe weather

If safety forces us to shut for an evening, we will contact you by email by 12:00 that day.

You will be offered your choice of a free date transfer or a 100% full refund. Zero hassle.

07Are there flashing strobe lights

No. We use atmospheric, twinkling and steady LED illuminations to light the trees and displays. No harsh strobe lighting is used anywhere on the trail.

08Can I take photos and videos

Absolutely. Photography and social sharing are highly encouraged, and we would love to see your photos.

We just ask that if you are using a professional camera setup, you avoid flash photography, so the ambient lighting stays magical for everyone else on the trail.

Grab your wellies

19 nights only. Timed slots sell out. Pick your night before the woods fill up.
